27 June 2026, Mau, Uttar Pradesh
As part of the nationwide Khet Bachao Abhiyan 2026, ICAR–National Bureau of Agriculturally Important Microorganisms, Mau, organized a farmer awareness and extension programme at Achhar village in Pardaha Block of Mau district, Uttar Pradesh today. The programme focused on promoting the use of beneficial microorganisms to improve soil fertility, enhance crop productivity, and encourage sustainable agricultural practices.
Addressing the participants, scientists from ICAR-NBAIM emphasized the importance of balanced nutrient management, regular soil testing, and the integration of microbial technologies into crop production systems. They highlighted the critical role of beneficial microorganisms in improving nutrient availability, maintaining soil health, and strengthening the resilience of farming systems in the face of changing climatic conditions.

To facilitate the adoption of microbial technologies, Bio-Phos and Bio-Zinc microbial biofertilizers developed by ICAR-NBAIM containing phosphate-solubilizing and zinc-solubilizing microorganisms were distributed among the participating farmers. Scientists also demonstrated the recommended methods of application and explained how these biofertilizers enhance nutrient uptake, promote healthy plant growth, and contribute to higher crop productivity.
The programme underscored the potential of microbial biofertilizers as sustainable alternatives to the excessive use of chemical fertilizers. Farmers were encouraged to adopt these eco-friendly inputs to improve soil quality, enhance nutrient-use efficiency, and support environmentally sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture.
A total of 80 farmers, including 30 men and 50 women, actively participated in the programme, reflecting the growing interest among farming communities in adopting science-based and sustainable agricultural technologies.
