ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Research, Anand, Gujarat organised a 5-day training on Setting of Herbal Extracts Business-5 (SHEB-5) through its Medi-Hub Technology Business Incubation (Medi-Hub, TBI) during 22-26 June, 2026. Medi-Hub TBI is an agribusiness incubator (ABI) established under National Agricultural Innovation Fund (NAIF), ICAR. The main objective of the SHEB-5 is to accelerate business development in Medicinal and Aromatic plants (MAPs). Dr Manish Das, Director, ICAR-DMAPR, Anand, Gujarat set the tone of the training program.
Dr Manish Das, in his address, emphasized on prospects of Herbal extract business in India. He added that herbal extracts business is growing rapidly with large number of extracts are prepared using medicinal and aromatic plants. He opined that herbal extracts use in preparation of Nutraceuticals and dietary supplements, Functional foods and beverages, Cosmetics and personal care, Animal feed supplements and Food flavoring and spice oleoresins has increased significantly.

A total of eight participants from various parts of the country who have novel business idea in MAPs sector have participated in the training program. Various topics covering scope and importance of MAPs, cultivation, herbal extracts preparation, quality testing and their use in finished product development were imparted to the participants.
Participants also interacted with successful incubatees of the Medi-Hub, TBI and visited the various herbal industries such as M/s. Vasu Healthcare, Vadodara, Gujarat and M/s. Pharmaza Herbals Pvt Ltd, Anand, Gujarat to understand the unit operations involved in preparation of herbal extracts.
