ICAR–Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, observed the 20th Parthenium Awareness Week from August 16–22, 2025, in line with the directions of Dr ML Jat, Secretary (DARE) & Director General, (ICAR). The programme aimed to raise awareness about the harmful impacts of Parthenium hysterophorus (commonly known as Carrot weed/Congress grass) on human and animal health, agriculture, and the environment.
Dr. Sanghamitra Samantaray, Director, ICAR-CRRI, urged the scientists to explore the potential use of Parthenium in rice research applications.

As part of the observance, cleaning drives were organized on the institute campus on August 21 and 22, along with an awareness rally at Bhadimul village on August 21, 2025. The programme concluded with a lecture on “Alternative Uses of Parthenium”.
The experts highlighted the wide-ranging harmful effects of the weed and shared their personal research experience on the feeding activity of Zygogramma bicolorata on Parthenium.
