A four-day training programme on “Scientific Mithun Husbandry for Enhanced Productivity and Profitability” was successfully organized from 2–5 June 2026 at ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun.
Dr Girish Patil, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun, in his inaugural address, emphasized the im-portance of adopting scientific mithun husbandry practices for enhancing productivity, im-proving animal health and increasing farm profitability to strengthen the livelihoods of tribal farming communities.

During the training programme, participants were provided hands-on training on scientific mithun management practices including breeding, feeding, healthcare, fodder production, housing and entrepreneurship development. A major highlight of the programme was the expo-sure visit to the Institute’s Mithun Farm, where farmers gained firsthand experience of scien-tific rearing and management practices.
The trainees also visited the Khonoma Mithun Conservation Unit and learned about communi-ty-based mithun conservation and sustainable management approaches. Practical demonstra-tions on value addition of mithun meat and milk exposed participants to processing techniques and enterprise opportunities for enhancing income through mithun-based products.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates to the participants. Farmers ap-preciated the practical orientation of the training and expressed their willingness to adopt the scientific technologies and practices demonstrated during the programme.
The programme was attended by 28 mithun farmers from Mirem Village, Arunachal Pradesh.
