Farmers’ Hostel and Value Addition & Food Processing Laboratory Inaugurated at KVK Medak–2, Tuniki

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Medak–2 (Tuniki), Telangana, organized the inauguration of a Farmers’ Hostel and Value Addition & Food Processing Laboratory at the KVK campus today.

The facilities were inaugurated by Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, and Dr M. L. Jat, Secretary, DARE & Director General, ICAR. The programme was attended by Shri M. Raghunandan Rao, Member of Parliament, Medak, Shri Bhagayya, RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini Member, along with several dignitaries, officials and farmers.

During the visit, the dignitaries inspected the Biocontrol Laboratory and inaugurated the newly established Food Processing Laboratory. They also visited the organic farming demonstration plots and an exhibition of organic agricultural products at the KVK campus, and planted saplings on the premises.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Bandi Sanjay Kumar extended his greetings on the occasion of International Women’s Day and appreciated the efforts of the Ekalavya Grameena Vikas Foundation (EGVF) in promoting organic agriculture and nurturing progressive farmers. He  stated that Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) play a vital role in disseminating scientific agricultural technologies and promoting organic farming. He added that the Farmers’ Hostel will facilitate residential training programmes, while the Food Processing Laboratory will promote value addition, food processing and agri-entrepreneurship in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr M. L. Jat emphasized that farmers’ development remains central to the vision of Viksit Bharat. He highlighted the Government of India’s focus on ensuring that modern and advanced agricultural technologies reach farmers effectively, and referred to the Bharat Vistar programme, which aims to strengthen agricultural outreach and development in rural areas.

Dr Shaik N. Meera, Director, ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone X, Hyderabad highlighted the significant contributions of KVKs in supplying quality seed material, demonstrating improved agricultural technologies and enhancing crop productivity through sustainable management practices.

Shri M. Raghunandan Rao, Member of Parliament, Medak, appreciated the role of KVK Tuniki in promoting organic agriculture and supporting farmers in adopting sustainable farming practices, and called for collective efforts to reduce plastic usage.

Shri Bhagayya, RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakarini Member, urged people to work collectively for village development and emphasized the importance of organic farming for better health. He also proposed launching the “Bhumi Suposhana” programme from Ugadi to promote the use of cow dung and cow urine for improving soil fertility.

During the programme, a book on the Biocontrol Laboratory was released, and the dignitaries were felicitated on the occasion.
