ICAR–National Meat Research Institute, Hyderabad, successfully organized a five-day Entrepreneurship Development Training Programme on ‘Clean Meat and Value-Added Meat Products’ during 31 August to 4 September, 2026. The training was aimed at strengthening entrepreneurial skills, technical knowledge and business opportunities in the meat processing sector.
Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest Shri Ashok Kumar Jha, Deputy General Manager, State Bank Institute of Rural Development (SBIRD), Hyderabad lauded institute activities and called for more such skill development programs for entrepreneurship development across country.
The Guest of Honour, Shri Shrikanth Reddy General Manager, SBIRD, expressed willingness to collaborate with ICAR-NMRI for working cohesively for rural development.

Addressing the participants, Dr S. B. Barbuddhe, Director, ICAR-NMRI, emphasized the importance of entrepreneurship, innovation and value addition for strengthening the meat processing sector. He encouraged the participants to utilize the knowledge and skills acquired during the training for establishing viable enterprises and contributing to employment generation and sustainable development.
The training programme focused on imparting practical knowledge on hygienic and clean meat production, scientific meat processing, value addition, product development, food safety and quality assurance, packaging and entrepreneurship opportunities. The participants were also sensitized to emerging technologies and innovative approaches for developing safe, nutritious and consumer-oriented meat products.
During the programme, experts and scientists delivered technical lectures and practical demonstrations covering various aspects of meat processing and value addition. The participants gained hands-on exposure to the preparation of different value-added meat products, enabling them to understand the principles of processing, quality control, product standardization and commercialization.

The programme also highlighted the potential of the meat sector for self-employment, start-ups and income generation, particularly through small- and medium-scale enterprises based on innovative meat products and efficient utilization of meat and slaughterhouse by-products.
The valedictory programme was organized on the concluding day, wherein the participants shared their experiences and expressed their appreciation for the technical knowledge and practical skills gained during the training.
The training is expected to facilitate the translation of scientific knowledge and technological innovations into entrepreneurial ventures, thereby contributing to the development of a safe, hygienic, sustainable and economically vibrant meat sector in the country.
A total of 19 participants from four different states participated in the program.
