Krishak Chaupal and Exhibition: Farmer-Scientist Innovation Dialogue Organized at ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur

The ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute (ICAR-ATARI), Zone-III, Kanpur, organized the “Krishak Chaupal and Exhibition: Farmer-Scientist Innovation Dialogue” on 29 August 2026, with Dr M.L. Jat, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR, as the Chief Guest. The programme commenced with the inauguration of the ‘UP KVK Network Map Display Board’ by Dr Jat.
Addressing farmers and agricultural scientists, Dr M.L. Jat appreciated the dedicated efforts of scientists and staff of Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) across the country for their continued service to the farming community. He emphasized the crucial role of KVKs in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat by empowering farmers through the dissemination of the latest agricultural technologies, scientific knowledge and innovations.
Dr Jat assured that the issues and concerns of KVK scientists and staff would be addressed expeditiously. He stated that KVKs are being developed as district-level hubs for capacity building, enabling farmers and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector to acquire modern knowledge and skills. He further emphasized that financial support to ICAR-ATARIs and KVKs would be strengthened to ensure that they are able to effectively undertake their mandated activities without financial constraints.
During the programme, Dr Jat interacted with farmers and scientists and chaired the ‘Krishak Chaupal’, providing a platform for farmers to directly share their concerns, issues and challenges related to agriculture. An exhibition showcasing agricultural innovations was also organized, featuring displays of One District One Product (ODOP) and other agricultural products from various districts.
The programme also featured insights from distinguished guests, including Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Vice-Chancellor, Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology (CSAUAT), Kanpur; Padma Shri awardee farmer Shri Chandrashekhar Singh; and Smt. Neelam Tyagi, Borlaug Awardee and woman entrepreneur. They shared their perspectives and highlighted the significance of agricultural innovations and the pivotal role of farmers in advancing agriculture and rural development.
In his welcome address, Dr Raghwendra Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur, highlighted the major achievements of ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur and the KVKs under its jurisdiction. He also outlined the key initiatives being undertaken to strengthen the frontline agricultural extension system and promote the welfare and empowerment of farmers.
The programme witnessed participation from Padma Shri awardee farmers, progressive farmers from Uttar Pradesh, Directors of Extension of Acharya Narendra Deva University of Agriculture and Technology (ANDUAT), Ayodhya and CSAUAT, Kanpur, scientists from KVKs and ICAR-ATARI, Kanpur, and other distinguished participants.
The programme was also attended virtually by Dr Ranjay Kumar Singh and Dr R.R. Barman, Additional Directors General (Agricultural Extension), Directors of ICAR-ATARIs across the country, and scientists from KVKs across Uttar Pradesh, reflecting the nationwide participation and outreach of the initiative.
