Administrative Building and Trainees’ Hostel at Purba Medinipur KVK Inaugurated

The Purba Medinipur Krishi Vigyan Kendra (Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya) witnessed a historic moment today with the grand inauguration of its Administrative Building and Trainees’ Hostel at Mulakhop, Dayaldasi, Nandakumar.

The new facilities were inaugurated by Dr. Rajbir Singh, Deputy Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, in the presence of distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Ashok K. Patra, Vice Chancellor, BCKV; Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata; Prof. S.B. Goswami, Director of Extension Education, BCKV; Shri Sukumar Dey, MLA, Nandakumar; Swami Bibekatmanandaji Maharaj, Ramkrishna Sarada Ashram; and Shri Susovan Patra, Vice President & Plant Head, Haldia Energy Ltd., among others.

In his address as the Chief Guest, Dr. Rajbir Singh emphasized the pivotal role of KVKs in farmer-centric research, technology transfer, income augmentation, and the vision of Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, encouraging closer farmer–scientist collaboration. He also emphasised on the need of situation specific technology targeting.

In his Presidential Address, Dr. Patra underlined BCKV’s commitment to developing KVKs as hubs of extension, innovation and training for rural transformation. In his Presidential Address, Dr. Ashok K. Patra reaffirmed BCKV’s unwavering commitment to shaping KVKs into dynamic hubs of extension, innovation, and training, driving rural transformation. He emphasized that BCKV would relentlessly strive to ensure the success and excellence of every KVK under its fold.

Dr. Dey underscored the importance of creating an enabling environment for agri-entrepreneurship through KVK partnerships, innovation, and youth engagement for contributing to the national goal of a Viksit Bharat.

Dr. Goswami stressed on the critical role of infrastructure in farmer-oriented extension services.

The event drew a large gathering of scientists, officials, farmers, and stakeholders, marking a significant leap in strengthening agricultural infrastructure and outreach in Purba Medinipur. Two publications wee also released on the occasion.

On this occasion, a vibrant exhibition by different KVKs under BCKV was organized, showcasing cutting-edge agricultural technologies, innovative practices, and success stories, reflecting the transformative role of KVKs in modern farming. Successful progressive farmers and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from Purba Medinipur and Jhargram districts were felicitated for their exemplary contributions to agriculture.

The inauguration marks a new era for Purba Medinipur KVK, empowering it with state-of-the-art facilities for training, farmer–scientist interaction, and research–extension activities, and reinforcing its role as a catalyst for agricultural growth in the region.
