Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR), Bengaluru and University of Horticultural Sciences (UHS), Bagaklkot, Karnataka jointly organized Media Meet and Showcasing of Technologies at Laddumuthy Temple, Seemikeri village, Bagalkot on March-16, 2013 under NAIP sub project Mobilizing Mass Media Support for Sharing Agro Information.
While addressing the media persons as Chief Guest, Dr. S.B. Dandin, Vice Chancellor, UHS, Bagalkot expressed concern over the present changing agricultural scenario in the country due to various reasons like climate change, depleting water resources, new challenges in crop protection, soil nutrient problems, post harvest losses and changing customers’ preferences. He also emphasized upon the need to transfer of sustainable technologies developed in the National Agricultural System by the agricultural universities and ICAR institutes to the farming community. Dr. Dandin urged to media persons to take all such technologies to the doorsteps of the farmers.
Dr. Nita Khandekar, Principal Scientist and Co-PI of the project emphasized on women empowerment and role of women in agriculture/horticulture. She also discussed about various women friendly and profitable technologies developed at IIHR, Bengaluru. A lively farmer-scientist interaction followed the programme.
Earlier, Dr. Y.K. Kotekal welcomed the dignitaries and Mr. P.B. Gaddagimath briefed the gathering about objectives of NAIP project and the main theme of the programme.
Dr. B. Balakrishna, Senior Scientist, Dr. Senthil Kumaran, Senior Scientist, Dr. M.B. Madalgeri, Director of Research, Dr. I.B. Biradar, Associate Professor and other faculty Members from UHS, Bagalkot were also present on the occasion.
More than 700 farmers including a large number of farm women, senior official of UHS, Bagalkot and representatives of print and electronic media were also participated in the media meet.
