Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR visited ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Arunachal Pradesh Centre at Basar on 30-31 March, 2013 along with Dr. S.N. Puri, Vice Chancellor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Manipur.
Dr. Ayyappan inaugurated the newly constructed building of ‘Tissue Culture Laboratory’ and ‘Polyhouse’. He also visited experimental fields, research and laboratory facilities developed at the Centre and distributed Vanaraja chicks, seeds of maize, groundnut, vegetables, banana, khasi mandarin and carp hatchery, etc. to progressive farmers belonging to different districts of the State. Dr. Ayaappan also released the book on “Climate Change, Its Impact and Mitigation Strategies for Hill Ecosystem” authored by R. Bhagawati et.al.
Dr. S. N. Puri expressed satisfaction over tremendous developments and spectacular changes coupled with contribution of ICAR -Basar during the last four years to the farming community of Arunahchal Pradesh.
In the meeting, Shri A. K. Purkayastha, Advisor, Department of Agriculture, Arunachal Pradesh urged ICAR authorities to strengthen and upgrade the ICAR Arunachal Centre to a full-fledged research institute, including research stations in all agro-climatic zones and bringing all the state KVKs into a single umbrella in the State. Shri Kanki Darang, ADC, Basar was also present on the occasion.
Earlier, Dr. S. V. Ngachan, Director ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Barapani welcomed all the dignitaries and guests assembled from different departments here.
A large number of progressive farmers, press and media also participated in the function.
