Pantnagar steps in to contain respiratory infection in Mules

On the advice of Agriculture Minister of the state of Uttarakhand, Govind Ballabh Pant University has taken immediate steps to cure suddenly noticed respiratory infection in mules in the area of Kedarnath on the upper hills of Garhwal region. It is estimated that some 1500 mules are in the grip of this infection. A team of three veterinary doctors was sent on 9th May to the spot where they diagnosed the disease and started the treatment. According to the team the situation is well under control and there is no need for panic. Scientists have ruled out the possibility of the spread of this infection in human beings.

In order to continue its efforts for further diagnosis and treatment of the disease, another team of university students and scientist consisting of 8 members was sent on 15th May to the site. To further strengthen the efforts of treatment a team of 15th members was sent on 18th May. To personally study the problem Vice-Chancellor Dr. B.S. Bisht along with the Dean of the College of Veterinary Sciences have left for the site in morning of 18th May.
