Shri Sharad Pawar, Union Minister of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries inaugurated new state-of-the-art infrastructure facilities including Main Building (Phase II), International Guest House, Boys & Girls Hostel and Residential Complex at Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Mumbai here today. These new facilities have been developed to bring academic excellence through the promotion of cutting edge and innovate research and teaching, generate quality human resources and to attract foreign students from Asia and Africa. While appreciating the infrastructure and contribution of the institute, Shri Pawar announced for a new modern auditorium, aquarium and farmers hostel for CIFE in the XII Plan so that CIFE becomes a truly world class organization.
Dr. S. Ayyappan, Secretary, DARE and Director General, ICAR lauded the performance of the students and scientists and compared CIFE facilities at par with the best in the world. He stressed on demand driven research and HRD with a focus on farmers first and students ready.
Shri Gurudas Kamat, Member of Parliament was Guest of Honour. Shri Baldev Khosa, MLA, local Municipal Corporators, Dr.B. Meenakumari, Deputy Director General (Fisheries), Dr.W.S. Lakra, Director/Vice Chancellor, CIFE, other Vice Chancellors, Directors and Representatives of Fishermen Co-operative Societies, Industry, scientists, staff and students participated in the ceremony.
