ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized a training programme on the ‘Research Facility for Remote Sensing and Soil Analysis under the Scientific Social Responsibility’ (SSR) initiative of a DST-SERB-funded project here today.
In his inaugural address, Dr Parveen Kumar, Director, ICAR-CCARI, emphasized the significance of open-source geo-informatics tools such as R and QGIS, along with freely available datasets, in empowering researchers to leverage remote sensing and GIS for sustainable agriculture.
The training featured lectures and hands-on practical sessions conducted by distinguished scientists. It commenced with a lecture on the overview of remote sensing and GIS applications in agriculture followed by a visit to the spectroscopy and soil research facility.
Hands-on training sessions on R and QGIS were conducted during the event.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Bappa Das and Dr Gopal Mahajan.
A total of 18 participants from various colleges affiliated with Goa University and ICAR-CCARI attended the programme.
