ICAR-Research Complex for NEH Region Manipur Centre organized a one-day Workshop on “Transforming food, land and water systems to combat the current climate crisis in Manipur” under NICRA today. The workshop aimed to develop a strategic roadmap for enhancing climate resilience in Manipur's agricultural sectors. This will be achieved through in-depth discussions, knowledge exchange, and collaborative planning across five key thematic areas, aiming to foster resource efficiency, ecological restoration, and inclusive growth.

In the workshop, Shri Peter Salam, Director, Agriculture, Government of Manipur, graced as Chief Guest. He has stated the mitigation efforts taken up during any environmental crisis in the state are of half measures and today’s workshop will help in choking out long term plans and implementation of strategic and specific measures. He emphasizes on geomapping of the state for introducing new crops from the next kharif season.
The Guest of Honor, Prof. N. Rajmuhon, Former Vice-Chancellor, Dhanamanjuri University emphasized carrying out comprehensive holistic research on our eastern Himalayan belt to understand the impact of climate changes.
Guest of Honours, Shri. K. Devdutta Sharma, Director, Horticulture and Soil conservation, Govt. of Manipur urged carrying research in collaborative mode to address the heat, drought and flood and maintaining gene bank of our important local crops to utilise in mitigating climate changes.
Dr. T. Brajakumar Singh, Director, Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Govt. of Manipur deliberated on profiling the ecological catchment areas of the state and also emphasize on incorporating energy sectors with the farm, land and water nexus.
Dr. Irengbam Meghachandra Singh, Former Joint Director, ICAR RC NEHR Manipur Centre stated exploring our native genetic resources and germplasm of crops for evolving climate resilience varieties of the state.

Dr. Ch. Basudha Devi, Head, Regional Centre, ICAR RC NEHR Manipur Centre addressed the importance of such workshop in developing strategic roadmap for enhancing climate resilience in Manipur agriculture sectors.
The workshop had two technical sessions followed by panel discussion. A total of 5 lectures on various topic related to climates changes were deliberated by eminent experts.
A total of 114 officials from different state government departments, Heads and SMSs of all KVKs and official from IMD, Imphal attended the workshop.
