Visit of ICAR Society Governing Body Members to ICAR-NRCG, Pune

Padma Shri Shri Kanwal Singh Chauhan, Non-Official Member of the Governing Body of the ICAR Society, visited the ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes, Pune, from June 7 to 9, 2025, to review and gain insights into the ongoing research and development activities of the institute.

During his visit, Shri Chauhan toured the institute’s experimental farms, where he observed the National Active Germplasm Site showcasing a wide array of grape varieties, along with other experimental blocks. He also visited the raisin-making units and the research winery, where he took a keen interest in the value-addition initiatives being undertaken.

Shri Chauhan was particularly impressed by the work being carried out at the National Referral Laboratory (NRL), especially the Trainers' Training Programmes being conducted there. He appreciated the institute’s efforts in capacity building and quality assurance in grape production. He expressed satisfaction over the strong linkages maintained with grape growers and stakeholders from the grape industry.

The Director and scientists of ICAR-NRCG briefed the Member on the key research activities, achievements, and collaborations of the institute.

In a meeting with the administrative team, important matters such as the recruitment of scientific and administrative staff, and the filling up of the vacant post of Hindi Officer, were also discussed.

The visit underscored the commitment of ICAR-NRCG to scientific excellence and stakeholder engagement in viticulture research.
