Field Day-cum-Stakeholders’ Meet on “Augmenting Productivity and Quality of Jute Fibre” organized

The ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore, Kolkata organized a “Field Day-cum-Stakeholders’ Meet” today.

Shri A.K. Jolly, Managing Director, Jute Corporation of India, Ministry of Textiles, Government of India marked his presence as the Chief Guest along with Dr. D.B. Shakywar, Director, ICAR-NINFET and Dr. Manabendra Roy, Member RAC as the Guests of Honor during the occasion.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Dr. Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore stressed on creating an awareness about the new cultivation and post-harvest technologies of Jute among all the stakeholders from farming, processing, manufacturing, policy making to marketing and export.

The growth and performance of three new high yielding Jute varieties namely - JROBA-3, JROBA-4 and JROMU-1 were demonstrated to the participants during the occasion. Besides the higher yield of more than 40 q/ha, the varieties have few special traits like premature flowering resistance and stem rot disease resistance.

The farmers and the other dignitaries also visited the different models of In-Situ Retting Tank and Free-Flowing Retting Water Tank in the newly developed Retting Complex of the Institute.

The representatives from all the Jute related Stakeholders like Jute Corporation of India, National Jute Board, Directorate of Jute Development; Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, State Agricultural Universities, ICAR-NINFET, FPOs, Progressive Farmers participated in the Field Day.
