The ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands organized a Campaign on Mass Tree Plantation and Awareness Programme on the Theme “Har Med Par Ped” to mark the celebrations of the ICAR’s 93rd Foundation Day today.

In his address, Dr. Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair highlighted the Institute’s role in providing the technological backstopping in Agri-Horti-Fish-Animal Husbandry that enables the doubling of the farmers’ income for decent livelihood.
Around 650 plants comprising of endemic plants like Andaman Kokum, Andaman Kau Phal, Artocarpuspeduncularis (Wild jackfruit), Garcinia celebica (Nicobar Mangosteen), orange kau phal-rare, besides Banana, Aonla, Guava, Khatta Phal, Bilimbi, West Indian Cherry, Sapota, Bread Fruit, Bread nut, etc., were planted during the occasion.
The programme was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
