The ICAR-Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Port Blair, Andaman & Nicobar Islands organized a Webinar on the occasion of the “National Fish Farmers’ Day - 2021” today.
In his address, Dr Eaknath B. Chakurkar, Director, ICAR-CIARI, Port Blair highlighted the significant contributions of the Eminent Indian Scientists - Dr. K.H. Alikunhi and Dr. H.L. Chaudhury on their successful demonstration of the technology of Induced Breeding (Hypophysation) in Indian Major Carps on 10th July, 1957.
Dr. Chakurkar emphasized on the need for promoting the systematic fish farming practices. He also urged the need to promote the ornamental fish culture enterprise for the benefit of the local stakeholders towards providing livelihood and employment.
A total of 37 participants including the fish farmers and other stakeholders participated in the Webinar.
The Webinar was organized as a part of the “Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav” to commemorate 75 Years of India’s Independence.
