Webshop on “Fodder Resource Development in Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir” organized

The ICAR-Indian Grassland and Fodder Research Institute, Regional Research Station, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir in collaboration with the Social Forestry Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir organized the Webshop on “Fodder Resource Development in Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir” today.

Dr. Amaresh Chandra, Director, ICAR-IGFRI, Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh recommended the development of the site-specific Silvipastoral Models for all the agro-climatic zones of the Union Territory. The in-depth study of the existing models, the lacunae and formulate strategies to improve or replace the existing models and showcasing of the best technologies, etc., were emphasized by him.

Shri Roshan Jaggi, Director, Social Forestry Department, Government of Jammu & Kashmir accentuated on the importance of forests, animal husbandry and the ways in which the higher stocking rates are exerting severe pressure on the forest lands.

Dr. Suheel Ahmad, Incharge, Regional Research Station, Srinagar underlined the fodder scenario and challenges faced by the livestock sector. The potential areas for the fodder production enhancement, viz., increase in area under Fodder Cultivation, Horti and Silvipastoral Systems and Grassland improvement were highlighted by Dr. Ahmad.

The Webshop aimed at discussing ther establishment of Silvipastures in the various agro-climatic regions of J&K for the augmentation of forage resource availability registered participation by 56 participants.
