MoU signed between IISWC, Eco-Task Force and Uttarakhand Van Panchayat Vikas Samiti

A triparty MoU has been signed between ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation, Dehradun 127 Eco-Task Force and Uttarakhand Van Panchayat Vikas Samiti for developing improved tree planting techniques and conducting an action research project in Jaunsar Tribal Region of middle Himalayas (Lakhwar) of Uttarakhand to improvise soil working techniques for enhancing tree establishment under rainfed condition.

The MoU was signed by   Dr. P.K. Mishra, Director, IISWC, Col. H.R.S. Rana, C.O. 127 Eco Task Force and Shri Narayan Singh Tomar, President, Uttarakhand Van panchayat Vikas Samiti,

Dr. Mishra briefed about the necessity and role of forest trees in soil and water conservation and highlighted the issues of drying of springs and the climate change.

Col Rana said development of new tree planting techniques would be very helpful in expanding forest cover in Uttarakhand. 

Shri Tomar explained about natural linkage between forest, animal and human and said that this linkage will be useful in rejuvenating the dried springs in hilly areas.  He also stressed upon women empowerment for forest management. 

Scientists and officers from the Institute and 127 Eco Task Force participated in the meeting.
