Annual Meet of Farm Innovators, 2011 at Directorate of Oilseeds Research, Hyderabad

The Annual Meet of Farm Innovators, associated with DOR mandate crops viz, sunflower, safflower and castor was held on National Science day 28th February, 2011, at this Directorate. 20 Innovative Farmers from 5 different states of the country viz, Gujarat (Mehasana, Banaskanta, Kutchh); Maharashtra (Solapur, Akola, Hingoli); Punjab (Kapurthala); Andhra Pradesh (Mahabubnagar, Ranga Reddy) and Rajasthan (Jodhpur) participated in this meet. In the forenoon, they visited the DOR experimental farm at Narkhoda and the Interaction meeting with the scientists of this Directorate was held in the afternoon. Dr. B.Venkateshwarulu, Director, CRIDA was the Chief Guest. The farmers shared their innovative way of farming to the audience. Some of the innovative method of farming such as using modified HTP power sprayer with movable trolley for spraying, drip irrigation in safflower and castor crop, using water conservation practices in castor and sunflower cultivation and changing the date of sowing to take the benefit of residual moisture and skip row cultivation in safflower under dry land conditions are very interesting. All the farmers were felicitated by the Directorate.
