Shri Ningthoujam Ingocha Singh - A role model vegetable farmer

Shri Ningthoujam Ingocha Singh S/o (L) Shri N. Kamdebo Singh, a 55 Years old farmer of Kumbi Terakha Village of Bishnupur District attended an Off-Campus training programme organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bishnupur District, Manipur during the early period of the Year - 2018-19.

After attending the training programmes, Shri Ingocha applied the scientific technologies for the cultivation of various crops on his inherited 0.5 ha of land. Besides, practicing the cultivation of seasonal vegetables, he was also interested in production of cruciferous vegetables.

In addition to the cultivation of cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, Knolkhol, broad-leaf mustard, etc., Shri Ingocha also introduced the scientific cultivation methods of potato with demonstration in his farm. With the proper application of his gained knowledge and improved skill, he could enhance the yield of different horticultural crops to a greater extent. At present, he has a model “Integrated Vegetable Farm” of an area of about 0.25 ha.

The Director of Agriculture, Government of Manipur also awarded Shri Ingocha with a prize of Rs. 25,000. The different agencies like ATMA and local NGOs also awarded him with the prestigious Award - NONGPOK NINGTHOU AWARD - 2018 by the Panthoibi Cultural Research Centre for Performing Arts (PACRECPA Society), Manipur, an award that is given to the outstanding Agri-preneurs.

During the Year - 2017-18, he could earn an annual net income of about Rs. 3.5 lakh, whereas, in the Year - 2018-19, his net income increased to Rs. 5.25 lakh from his vegetable farm. Now, Shri Ingocha is leading a comfortable life and could manage all his family expenses from his farming enterprise. Inspired by his success, many unemployed youths have also shown their interests in farming.
