“The researchers should focus on reducing the farm input cost, creating the new market for diversified fish and fishery products and development of responsive extension systems to disseminate the technologies to the end-users”, urged Shri Jatindra Nath Swain, Secretary (Fisheries), Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Government of India. Shri Swain was on his visit to the ICAR-Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture, Chennai today.
The Secretary visited the State-of-the-Art Shrimp and Finfish Hatcheries and the Pilot-scale at Muttukadu Experimental Station of the Institute. During his interaction with the Institute’s Scientists, he stressed on developing the innovative and efficient technology options for the farming community.
The progress in the eco-based farming like biofloc farming technology for Shrimp nursery and grow-out technology was also applauded by the Secretary. Interacting with the Engineers associated with the Institute through Start-Up Programmes on Aerator Efficiency & Automation in Biofloc and Intensive Farming Systems, the Secretary suggested economizing the Aeration by improving the efficiency.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, Dr. K.P. Jithendran, Director, ICAR-CIBA, Chennai apprised the Secretary about the Brackishwater Sector’s strength and the accomplishments made by the Institute in the diversification of species / culture system & technological innovations in feed, disease diagnostics, prophylactics, etc.
Dr. V. Kripa, Member Secretary, Coastal Aquaculture Authority, Chennai urged for amending / refining the guidelines for the Coastal Aquaculture.
The Senior Officials of Coastal Aquaculture Authority, Chennai and National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad were also present during the occasion.
