ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi Organizes Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition

ICAR-Indian Institute of Natural Resins and Gums, Ranchi organised The Annual Kisan Mela-cum-Exhibition today.

The Mela was inaugurated by Shri Randhir Kumar Singh, Agriculture Minister, Government of Jharkhand. He briefed about the government strategies to strengthen the farming community. Shri Singh also opined that planning at grass root level will be helpful for dairy piggery, goatry, fisheries development and to promote organic farming in the state. He asserted that the efforts taken by Institute to generate awareness among the farmers for undertaking scientific cultivation of lac is yielding good results. Shri Singh appreciated the contribution of the Institute and stressed that the State Government will render all support to the Institute in its endeavour. He honoured progressive lac farmers for their achievement in lac production.

Shri Ram Tahal Choudhary, Member of Parliament, Ranchi, Jharkhand and Dr George John, Vice Chancellor, BAU, Ranchi were guests of honour.

Shri Ram Tahal Choudhary opined that small scale industry may be more useful to boost the rural economy and all the rural community should participate actively in Yojna Banao Abhiyan (Gram Panchyat Development Planning) for need based infrastructure development.

Dr John, in his address emphasized on special research for alternate lac host plants as a need of hour. He opined that market support both forward and backward, is an essential activity to encourage the lac growers. Primary level processing units may be helpful to get better prices.

Dr. KK Sharma., Director, ICAR-IINRG, Ranchi in his welcome address threw light on research achievements, activities and various programmes of the Institute for the welfare of lac farmers. He announced that this institute has been granted ISO-9001-2008 certification.

 The farmers were apprised of the various lac production technologies, new lac-host plants introduced for lac cultivation and pest management techniques. A Kisan Ghosti was also organized

More than 800 farmers, Scientists from local ICAR Institutes and other stakeholders participated in the event.
