Capacity Building Programme for Fish Farmers of Mayurbhanj District of Odisha

ICAR-Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore organized a 4-day training programme for the farmers of Mayurbhanj District, Odisha during 23-26 December 2016.

Dr. B. K. Das, Director, ICAR-CIFRI, in his inaugural address emphasized on the importance of the skill development of the farmers on various aspects of inland fisheries management to secure their life and livelihood.

Mayurbhanj District has lots of inland water bodies including reservoirs and canals. This training programme aimed at developing knowledge up-scaling, skill and attitude of the farmers towards inland fisheries management. The programme is further targeted to strengthen the practical skill of the farmers for enhancing the fish production in open waters viz., reservoirs, canals, ponds & tanks etc. through learning by doing, field practicals, field exposure visits, demonstrations and class room sessions.

About 31 fish farmers including two women, six tribal fishermen participated in this training programme.
