ICAR–Central Institute of Fisheries Education, Kolkata Centre, organised a 14-day internship training programme on “Diversified Aquaculture with Best Management Practices” from 15 to 28 October 2026 for 16 Bachelor of Fisheries Science (B.F.Sc.) students specialising in Industrial Fish and Fisheries from Ramdayalu Singh (RDS) College, Muzaffarpur, Bihar.
The programme familiarised students with modern aquaculture technologies, including biofloc systems, Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), aquaponics and pearl farming, along with best management practices for their effective implementation. The training also covered induced breeding and carp culture, ornamental fish breeding and culture, feeding and disease management, soil and water quality management, and fish processing.

The practical sessions provided hands-on experience in induced breeding of carps, soil and water quality analysis, fish feed preparation, proximate composition analysis, pearl farming techniques and bacterial isolation. Field visits to Nalban sewage-fed aquaculture facilities and various fish farms, including an ornamental fish breeding and culture unit in Howrah, exposed the students to real-world applications of diversified aquaculture practices.
The students expressed satisfaction with the training and shared positive feedback on the learning experience. The programme was conducted under the leadership of Dr. N. P. Sahu, Director, ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai, with the objective of strengthening students’ practical skills and knowledge of scientific aquaculture practices.
