ICAR-NAARM, Hyderabad Organizes Capacity Building Programme on Export Readiness for FPOs at Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh, in collaboration with IIPM Bengaluru and APEDA

ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad, organized a Capacity Building Programme on “Empowering FPOs for Global Success: A Comprehensive Training on Export Readiness” today in Andhra Pradesh. The programme was conducted under the Rural Technology Action Group (RuTAG 2.0) project, funded by the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Plantation Management (IIPM), Bengaluru, and the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA). The programme commenced with an address highlighting the importance of developing export readiness among Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs).

The inaugural session emphasized the need to strengthen FPOs at the grassroots level through collective action, institutional convergence and market-oriented approaches, with the objective of enhancing farmer incomes and ensuring the long-term sustainability of farmer organizations.
The potential of horticultural produce in the region was also highlighted, with emphasis on improving quality, aggregation and value addition to enhance the competitiveness of FPO products in domestic and international markets.

Participants were sensitized to the adoption and commercialization of technologies developed by premier technical and agricultural institutions for value addition and enterprise development among FPOs. The technologies showcased included solutions for millet dehusking, onion storage, sheep hair shearing and mango seed decortication.

The role of institutional credit, financial assistance and capacity building in strengthening FPO business operations and expanding market access was also discussed.

The session further stressed the importance of market-oriented production, quality compliance and value addition in enhancing the export potential of agricultural commodities.

The programme was attended by 116 participants, including public representatives, progressive farmers, start-ups and representatives of 57 FPOs/FPCs.
