ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, North Goa, under ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute, Goa, organized an Agricultural Method Demonstration on Vermicompost Production and Its Application at Guirim, Bardez, North Goa, today. The programme aimed to promote scientific vermicomposting as a sustainable nutrient management technology for improving soil health, recycling organic waste, and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers.
A practical demonstration on vermicompost production and its application was conducted as part of the programme. Participants were taken through the step-by-step process of vermicompost preparation, including the selection and preparation of suitable organic materials, maintenance of optimum moisture levels, earthworm activity, decomposition process, and harvesting of quality vermicompost. They were also sensitized to the importance and benefits of vermicompost as an eco-friendly organic manure for promoting sustainable agriculture.

The demonstration highlighted its role in improving soil health and structure, increasing organic matter, enhancing nutrient availability, promoting beneficial soil microorganisms, and reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers. Suitable methods of vermicompost application in different crops were also explained.
The programme provided farmers and students with practical knowledge of scientific vermicompost production and its application in sustainable agriculture. The demonstration also encouraged the recycling of farm and household organic waste into valuable organic manure, contributing to soil health improvement, sustainable nutrient management, and environmentally friendly agricultural practices.
A total of 24 participants actively participated in the demonstration.
