Report on Empowering Farm Women through Skill Development Training programme in making Jute Diversified Products at ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore

A basic Skill Development training programme was organized by ICAR - Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibers, Barrackpore for empowerment of farm women in making various types of Jute Diversified Products including jute show pieces where farm women of different villages of North 24 Parganas, participated in the training programme. The training was conducted at Institute’s Skill Development Hall during June 08 - 16, 2026.

The training was organized with the objective of empowering farm women by enhancing their entrepreneurial skills and promoting sustainable livelihood opportunities. The programme focused on developing in-hand practical skills in the production of value-added jute products, enabling participants to be technically empowered and to generate additional income by making and selling these handicrafts.

The trainees were given both theoretical and practical exposure by the well-trained Trainers and the basic skill of the participants was developed in making of various types of jute diversified products including jute show pieces. The trainees were also motivated to continue their practice in making these handicrafts after the training, so that they can fine-tune their acquired skill.

During the valedictory session, Dr Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF interacted with each participant, motivated them and put emphasis on marketing of their handmade jute diversified products. He also acknowledged the importance of this type of training for creating sustainable livelihood option through skill development in making value added jute diversified products. The trainees were happy with their training exposure and wanted to learn more skill in making jute diversified products.

By equipping participants with practical skills and entrepreneurial knowledge, the initiative promoted self-reliance, income generation, and sustainable rural development. Continued support through market linkage and advanced training can further enhance the impact of such programmes.
