ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research, Anand, Gujarat organized training program on Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Promotion of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Cultivation today under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SCSP) scheme and Khet Bachao Abhiyan under Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) program at Anand, Gujarat.
Dr Manish Das, Director, ICAR-DMAPR, Anand, Gujarat graced the inaugural session of the training program. He emphasized the importance of medicinal and aromatic plants (MAPs) for income enhancement and sustainable agriculture. He suggested the farmers to adopt natural farming practices for better yield and quality as potential and sustainable alternative.
Information was provided on balanced fertilizer use and its role in maintaining soil health and improving crop productivity. Scientific production technologies for medicinal plants were elaborated upon. Processing and value-addition opportunities for enhancing profitability from medicinal and aromatic plant (MAP) cultivation were discussed. The growing market potential and entrepreneurial opportunities in the medicinal and aromatic plant sector were highlighted. The importance of biocontrol agents and bio-consortia in promoting sustainable agriculture was explained.
Over 100 women farmers from Anand district (Tarapur and Khambhat) of Gujarat have participate in the one-day training program. Farm inputs and seed kits were also distributed to the participants. Visit to technology demonstration block and herbal garden were also arranged. Cultivation of green manuring crops such as Decha (Sesbania bispinosa) was also demonstrated to the farmers. Shri. Himat Chauhan, Pochabhai foundation, Khambhat Anand facilitated the visit of women farmers.
