The ICAR–Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute organized a Training-cum-Awareness Programme on “Khet Bachao Abhiyan: Balanced Use of Fertilizers and Sustainable Soil Health Practices” at Village Pilgao, Bicholim Taluka, Goa.
The programme was chaired by Shri Umakant Prabhu Gaonkar, Deputy Sarpanch, in the presence of the Assistant Agriculture Officer, Bicholim Taluka, and the former Deputy Director of Agriculture.
During the programme, emphasis was laid on the importance of soil test-based fertilizer application, balanced nutrient management, integrated use of organic manures, and natural farming practices for maintaining soil health, improving nutrient-use efficiency, and ensuring environmental sustainability.

Scientists also demonstrated the Fertilizer Calculator Goa mobile application developed by ICAR-CCARI and explained its utility in generating scientific fertilizer recommendations for farmers based on soil nutrient status.
The participants actively interacted during the sessions and expressed keen interest in adopting soil test-based nutrient management and sustainable agricultural practices for improving soil fertility and crop productivity. The programme served as an effective platform for generating awareness on balanced fertilizer use and promoting environmentally sustainable farming practices among farmers.
The collaboration focused on promoting INM frameworks and highlighting the economic benefits of organic-aligned farming to a wider public audience.
A total of 29 participants, including 7 male and 22 female farmers, attended the programme.
