ICAR-CRIJAF, Barrackpore Celebrates International Day of Plant Health

ICAR-Central Research Institute for Jute and Allied Fibres, Barrackpore celebrated the International Day of Plant Health today with great enthusiasm, underscoring the importance of plant health in ensuring food security, sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation.

The programme featured a special lecture by Dr P. K. Chakraborty, Former Member, ASRB (Plant Sciences) who emphasized the need for strengthening biosecurity measures in agriculture to safeguard crops and ensure sustainable agricultural development.

An invited talk was also delivered by Dr R. G. Agarwal, Chairman Emeritus, Dhanuka Agritech Ltd., who highlighted sustainable crop protection strategies and the role of innovative solutions in improving jute cultivation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Gouranga Kar, Director, ICAR-CRIJAF, emphasized the significance of protecting plant health for building resilient agricultural systems and ensuring national food security.

As part of the celebrations, a tree plantation programme was organized in the presence of dignitaries, reaffirming the institute’s commitment towards environmental conservation and sustainable agriculture.
