ICAR–Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Research, Anand, Gujarat, celebrated World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2026 in line with the global theme “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate.” To mark the occasion, an expert lecture on “Prospects and Features of IP in Agriculture in India’s Prosperity” was organized.
The special guest, Dr Mamata Karkar, Head, Department of Law, Sardar Patel University, Vallabh Vidyanagar, Gujarat, delivered the lecture, emphasizing the critical role of intellectual property rights (IPR) in agriculture for fostering innovation and promoting business development. She elaborated on various acts and rules related to IP protection and discussed key issues such as infringement cases and conflicts of interest in the granting of intellectual property rights.

Dr Manish Das, Director, ICAR-DMAPR, chaired the programme and highlighted the importance of intellectual property in driving innovation in both agriculture and sports. He also outlined various initiatives undertaken by ICAR-DMAPR to strengthen IP protection.
The programme witnessed the participation of around 40 attendees, including scientists, technical, administrative, and supporting staff, as well as research fellows of the Directorate. The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants engaged with the expert on various aspects of IP filing and management.
