Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, visited the ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region Umiam today.

Shri Choudhary, addressed the gathering of scientists and farmers and appreciated the institute’s endeavors for agricultural development in NEH Region. He emphasized that as a country with farming as our priority our goal should be to make farming community sustainable and profitable in NEH Region. He stressed on natural farming and urging upon the farmers for the balanced use of fertilizers.

He informed that the climate change being a major challenge in agriculture, he urged upon the scientist and farmers to collaborate and develop crops and techniques as per the climatic requirements. He stressed on "Per Drop More Crop" and "Vocal for Local” initiative of the government to make India self-reliant (Atmanirbhar) by promoting domestic products, supporting local manufacturing, and upgrading local supply chains into global brands. The Minister also distributed farm tools to the farmers during the programme.
