Krishi Vigyan Kendras Key to Farmers’ Development: Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan

A Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Conference was organised as part of the Unnat Krishi Mahotsav (Exhibition and Training) at Raisen, bringing together farmers, KVK representatives, scientists, and agricultural experts from across the country.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, underscored the pivotal role of Krishi Vigyan Kendras in disseminating modern agricultural technologies and promoting scientific farming practices among farmers. He announced that a new KVK is being established in Vidisha district and highlighted the preparation of a comprehensive roadmap to accelerate agricultural development in Raisen, Vidisha, Sehore, and Dewas.

Shri Ramnath Thakur, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, spoke on the importance of enhancing farmers’ income through technological advancements and innovation in agriculture. Shyam Singh Rana, Agriculture Minister, Government of Haryana, highlighted state-level initiatives aimed at improving farmers’ welfare.

Dr M. L. Jat, Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General, ICAR, emphasized the need for effective dissemination of scientific research and innovations to the farming community.

In his welcome address, Dr Rajarshi Ray Burman, Assistant Director General (Agricultural Extension), ICAR, highlighted the critical role of innovation and extension services in strengthening the agricultural sector.

Dr S. R. K. Singh, Director, ICAR-Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, elaborated on the role and achievements of KVKs in Madhya Pradesh, particularly in enhancing farmers’ income, promoting new technologies, and facilitating effective implementation of government schemes.

The programme also featured interactions with Padma Shri awardee farmers and progressive farmers from different regions, who shared their experiences and success stories.

The conference witnessed large-scale participation from farmers, scientists, agricultural experts, and officials from various states. It served as an important platform for knowledge exchange, contributing significantly to the dissemination of advanced agricultural technologies and the empowerment of farmers.
