Field Day on Grape and Pomegranate Organised at Indapur, Maharashtra

1 March 2026, Pune

A field day celebrating the success of commercial cultivation of grape and pomegranate was organized at Shetphal haveli, Indapur taluka, Pune district today. A bioagent input laboratory developed by Freshta Farmers' Producer Company under the leadership of Mr. Rajendra Waghmode was also inaugurated in this occasion to promote biointensive agriculture in the region.

While inaugurating the event, the Chief Guest, Shri Rajendra Pawar, a prominent agriculturist and the President, Baramati Krishi Vikas Pratishthan, appreciated the efforts of ICAR institutes in promoting technology-intensive horticulture in Maharashtra State through public-private partnerships. He also stressed upon conscious applications of artificial intelligence and protected cultivation to manage climatic aberrations.

Dr Kaushik Banerjee, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre for Grapes and Dr Rajiv Marathe, Director, ICAR-National Research Centre on Pomegranate, Solapur, Maharashtra updated the farmers about various fit-for-purpose technologies developed by respective institutes, and explained their roles in facilitating better and safer production of grape and pomegranate, respectively.

Around 400 progressive farmers participated in the interactive technical sessions. This was followed by a field visit to a vineyard of a newly identified grape variety, which is awaiting registration with PPVFRA in collaboration with ICAR-NRC Grapes.
