ICAR–National Bureau of Agricultural Insect Resources, Bengaluru, welcomed Dr. M. L. Jat, Secretary (DARE) and Director General (ICAR), on his maiden visit to the institute today. He was received by the Director, ICAR–NBAIR, along with Directors, Regional Station In-charges, and staff members from ICAR–NBAIR and neighbouring ICAR institutes.

During his visit, Dr. Jat participated in a tree planting programme and toured various facilities of the institute, including the National Insect Museum (NIM), Live Insect Repository Unit (LIRU), and Insect Biosafety Level (IBSL-2) laboratories. He also viewed an exhibition showcasing innovative technologies developed by ICAR–NBAIR. He also appreciated the institute’s achievements and commended the efforts of the scientists and staff in advancing research and innovation in agricultural entomology and biological control.

Dr. Jat stressed the need for optimal utilization of scientific expertise and institutional resources, proposing the establishment of a common research facility in Bengaluru to foster collaborative innovation. Encouraging the staff to take ownership of their institution, he called upon them to act as ambassadors of ICAR, promoting effective communication and implementation of the Council’s policies. He highlighted the importance of a shared vision, teamwork, and strategic planning to guide the institute’s future direction.

In an interactive session with the institute’s staff and representatives from neighbouring organizations, the Director General emphasized the importance of an assertive, interdisciplinary, and trans disciplinary approach to address complex challenges faced by the farming community. He urged scientists to set aspirational research goals, strengthen collaboration across disciplines, and work toward developing systemic and scalable solutions for agricultural problems.

His inspirational address motivated the scientists, students, and staff, reinforcing their commitment to research excellence and service to the farming community. The visit concluded with a formal vote of thanks extended by the Director, ICAR–NBAIR, expressing gratitude to the Director General for his guidance and encouragement.
