ICAR–National Institute of Natural Fibre Engineering and Technology, Kolkata, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology, Bhadohi, organized a Workshop-cum-Meeting on ‘Jute-based Yarns for Carpet and Home Textile Applications’ as part of its outreach programme.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Rajeev Kumar Varshney, Director, IICT, and Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Director, ICAR-NINFET.

In his address, Dr. Shakyawar highlighted the significant potential of natural fibres, particularly jute and jute-synthetic blends, in diversifying carpet and home textile products. He emphasized their role in value addition and sustainable product development within the floor covering sector.
Shri Piyush Kumar Baranwal, Secretary, All India Carpet Manufacturers' Association (AICMA), lauded the collaborative efforts of ICAR-NINFET and IICT in developing jute-blended yarns and Carpet-Dhurries. He also urged the need for sustained research and innovation in yarn development and colouration.
The technical session witnessed active engagement from 30 industry representatives from the Bhadohi carpet cluster.
