Training on production technology of sweet orange for Telangana farmers

A 3-day training programme on the ‘Production Technology of Sweet Oranges’ was organized by ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute (ICAR-CCRI), Nagpur, from February 27 to March 1, 2025, for sweet orange growers from Nalgonda district, Telangana.

 

The Chief Guest, Dr V. J. Shivankar, Former Director, ICAR-CCRI encouraged the farmers to implement cultivation practices informed during the training for better productivity of sweet oranges.

During the valedictory session, Dr Dilip Ghosh, Director, ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur urged the trainees to focus on acquiring and planting healthy planting material, adopt scientific methods to maximize yields, and urged other sweet orange farmers to implement good agricultural practices. 

 

The training, sponsored by the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and the Government of Telangana, covered orchard management, nutrient diagnostics, water and pest management, disease control, and nematode management in sweet orange cultivation. Scientists provided guidance during technical sessions, and participants visited the nursery and experimental blocks. The program included practical demonstrations on pest identification, Bordeaux mixture preparation, drone pesticide spraying, and an off-campus visit to citrus orchards in Katol Taluka, Nagpur.

The training programme was coordinated by Dr Naresh M. Meshram, Sr. Scientist (Entomology), Dr J. P. Tej Kumar, Scientist (Biotechnology), and Dr Kiran Kumar K, Scientist (Nematology) from ICAR-CCRI, Nagpur.

A total of 22 farmers and 3 horticultural officers participated in the programme.
