Training on Maize Based Farming Systems organised

An awareness and input injection programme for the promotion of scientific maize cultivation in farming system mode was organized by ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, Assam, in collaboration with ICAR-Indian Institute of Maize Research, Ludhiana, Punjab (NEH Component) today, under the guidance and leadership of Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-IARI. The primary objective of this programme was to educate farmers about the implementation of advanced technologies and practices for enhancing maize cultivation.

 

The Chief Guest, Shri Tanay Jyoti Gogoi, District Agriculture Officer, Dhemajihighlighted the state’s role in improving the livelihood of farmers of Assam and the potential of improved maize varieties in enhancing maize production in this region.

The Guest of Honor, Dr Ajoy Patir, Professor, Dhemaji College, and social worker, spoke about maize industrialization, food processing, and the use of advanced technologies in maize farming.

Smt Runmi Gogoi, Branch Manager, SBI, Gogamukh), spoke about the various Govt schemes like the PM Kisan Scheme, PM Food Processing Industry Scheme, and other bankable schemes related to the farming community. She also highlighted the importance of processing in the Agriculture sector. 

A total of 390 farmers benefited from this farmer-scientist interaction program, which was followed by the distribution of agricultural inputs including maize hybrid seeds, insecticides, fungicides, vermi-bed, bio-enriched organic manure, spade, prong, urea, and zinc sulfate. During this event, various informational leaflets pertaining to scientific farming practices were also disseminated.
