ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi celebrated its Foundation Day here today.
The Chief Guest, Dr. Himanshu Pathak, Secretary (DARE) & Director General (ICAR), ICAR delivered the Foundation Day Lecture” Indian Agriculture in the Amrit Kaal - Initiatives of ICAR”.
Dr. Pathak highlighted the challenges faced by Indian agriculture and the projections and targets to be achieved in the future in the field of agriculture. He emphasized the initiatives for resilient, secondary, and digital agriculture in modern agriculture along with its integration with traditional knowledge to achieve maximum benefits. The DG said to address the multiple and frequent challenges in agriculture ICAR has taken many initiatives including certifying production and protection of technologies, rightsizing ICAR and improving governance, revitalizing ASRB, and collaborating with industry and global organizations amongst many. He concluded his lecture with the vision to develop a new roadmap for development that will be climate-friendly and in which developing countries will play a crucial role with the approach of low carbon, nitrogen, water, and energy and integration of rural and urban youth equipped with new skills
Dr. HS Gupta, Former Director, ICAR- IARI, and Dr. RB Singh, Former Director, ICAR- IARI, and Former Chairman, ASRB were Guest of Honour and Chairman of the session, respectively.
Dr. Gupta highlighted the challenges being faced by Indian agriculture in the present scenario.
At the outset, Dr. AK Singh, Director, ICAR-IARI briefed about significant research activities and achievements of the Institute in the year 2022-23 carried out for the benefit of different stakeholders.
A short film was shown to give a glimpse of the efforts, achievements, and various activities of the Institute.
The farmers from the clusters of the SCSP program shared their views and experience regarding different activities being held at the village level after being associated with the Institute.
The dignitaries also released some publications.
The scientists, staff, students, and farmers from different clusters associated with the SCSP program were present on the occasion.
Dr. RN Padaria, Joint Director (Extension), ICAR-IARI delivered the vote of thanks.
