NABARD & a-IDEA jointly organized State Level Millet Program at ICAR-NAARM

NABARD organized State Level Millet Conclave at ICAR-National Academy of Agricultural Research Management, Hyderabad here today. The objective of the event is to commemorate the International Year of Millets – Promotion of Farmer Producer Organizations and Multi-Stakeholder Approach for the promotion of millets-based products. 

Smt. Suseela Chinatala, CGM, NABARD in her welcome address highlighted various NABARD’s interventions on millets being implemented across rural landscape of India.

Dr. Ch Srinivasa Rao, Director, ICAR-NAARM appreciated NABARD for organizing the conclave with the support of a-IDEA, TBI of ICAR-NAARM to promote millets in the State. He urged the farmers to come together in the form of FPO to fetch a better price for their produce.

Dr. C Tara Satyavathi, Director, IIMR emphasised the nutritional benefits of millet and issues in the millet value chain. She also highlighted the work done by IIMR in evolving high yielding varieties of millets.

Dr. Praveen Rao, Former Vice Chancellor, PJTSAU said the popularization of millets requires multiple stakeholders to come together.   He urged that there is a need to take efforts to make these Climate Smart crops as income smart.

Dr. Venkata Ramana, Director (Research, PJTSAU) shared that millets production has been facing various hurdles for ages and encouraged farmers and participants to grow millets.

Two technical sessions on millet promotion, awarding ceremony for farmers and farm women and about 25 exhibition stalls of millet-based products, millet lunch were the highlights of the conclave.

About 300 participants covering FPOs, Farm Women, Scientists, Startups, SHGs were attended the conclave.
