ICAR-DMAPR organised Entrepreneurship Orientation Program in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants

A 21-day “Online Entrepreneurship Orientation Program in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants-VI (EOPMAP-VI)” organized by ICAR-Directorate of Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Research (DMAPR), Anand, Gujarat with its Medi-Hub Technology Business Incubator (Medi-Hub TBI) from 1st to 21st February, 2023.

Medi-Hub TBI is an agribusiness incubator established under National Agricultural Innovation Fund (NAIF), ICAR. The main objective of the EOPMAP is to accelerate start-up business in Medicinal and Aromatic plants (MAP).

The valedictory function was held today in which Dr. Sudhakar Pandey, Assistant Director General (Horticulture), ICAR was the Chief Guest of function. Dr. Manish Das, Director, ICAR-DMAPR, Anand was presided over the function.

Dr. Pandey, in his address, highlighted importance of medicinal and aromatic plants for health and business development. He said that the herbal sector is a sunrising sector with many business opportunities for Enterprunership development.  He said that agribusiness incubation centers of ICAR is facilitating large number of agripruners to convert their novel idea to businesses. He also highlighted the scope of business development in cultivation, value addition, and marketing in medicinal and aromatic plants.

Dr. Manish Das, Director, ICAR-DMAPR in his address highlighted the importance of strengthening of the value chain of medicinal and aromatic plants in the country for economic development. He opined there is a need for market intelligence of MAPs for health and livelihood security.

Earlier, Dr. R. Nagaraja Reddy, Sr. Scientist and Principal Investigator, Medi-Hub, TBI in his welcome address presented on overview of the training program.

Over 33 participants having interest in developing business in medicinal and aromatic plants participated in the virtual training program. Novel ideas in the field of agriculture including medicinal and aromatic plants will be incubated at the Medi-Hub, TBI for business development. Medi-Hub, TBI is mandated to render incubation support to various stakeholders in the country.
