Annual Zonal Workshop of Zone-VI was organised at Navsari Agricultural University (NAU), Navsari during June 12-14, 2012. Dr K.D. Kokate, Deputy Director General (Agriculture Extension), ICAR in his inaugural address, as Chief Guest, pointed out that Krishi Vigyan Kendras are being discussed at International level and playing a strong role in overall development of farming community in our country. KVKs of Rajasthan and Gujarat state are doing excellent work in arid and semi-arid areas where water conservation technology requires an urgent attention. He cited the example of KVK, Kannur as a role model in different aspects of agricultural development for the farming community.
Dr. A.R. Pathak, Vice Chancellor, NAU while delivering presidential address expressed his satisfaction over lead role being played by the KVKs and the linkage between the KVKs and the line departments for meeting the technical needs of the farmers.
Dr. HJ Derashri, Director Extension Education, NAU welcomed all the participants; while Dr. Y.V. Singh, Zonal Project Director, Zone-VI, Jodhpur briefed about the growth and salient achievements of KVKs of Zone-VI and also highlighted the new initiatives proposed for the strengthening of KVK system of Zone-VI highly affected with arid and semi-arid climatic conditions during the XII Five Year Plan.
Directors of Extension from SAUs, Scientists from ZPD, Zone-VI, Professors from Directorate of Extension, Officials from Department of Agriculture and Programme Coordinators of 70 KVKs of Zone-VI comprising of Rajasthan and Gujarat participated in the workshop and presented the annual progress report for the year 2011-12 and action plan for the year 2012-13.
