Shri Aboobacker Siddique P emphasized the state’s ongoing efforts, including 100% subsidized seed distribution under the Seed Replacement Program. He urged for long-term strategies such as the Seed Village model and involving progressive farmers in decentralized seed production.

Dr Ch. Srinivasa Rao highlighted ICAR-IARI’s pivotal role in advancing India’s food security and stressed the need for a Jharkhand-specific seed policy focusing on bio-fortified, climate-resilient varieties and agro-climatic adaptability.

Shri Gopal Tiwari encouraged ICAR institutes to build the capacities of farmers and officials for localized seed production. Concerns regarding assured procurement of locally produced seeds were raised by SAMETI, with suggestions for a dedicated follow-up with state agencies. NSC representatives also highlighted logistical challenges in seed production infrastructure.

The workshop concluded with a consensus to formulate a strategic policy paper aimed at establishing a sustainable and self-reliant seed system in Jharkhand, in partnership with ICAR institutions and NARES stakeholders.

Approximately 70 participants, including scientists, officials from line departments, seed corporations, State Agricultural Universities, KVKs, progressive farmers, FPOs, and private sector representatives, took part in the workshop.
