ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Phek, in collaboration with ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun, Porba, organized the Mithun Mahotsav and Agri-Business Summit for Viksit Bharat 2047 at Porba village. The event aimed to promote sustainable agriculture, value addition, and agri-entrepreneurship in the region.
The programme was inaugurated by Shri Mhathung Yanthan, Advisor (Agriculture), Government of Nagaland, and Dr. Neisatuo Mero, Member of Legislative Assembly, 16 AC Pfutsero.
Dr Mero delivered a visionary address stressing community-led agricultural development, robust market systems, and collective growth aligned with national goals.
Shri Yanthan underscored the relevance of traditional practices, complemented by mechanization and agripreneurship.

Key speakers including Dr Kishore K. Baruah (ICAR General Body), Dr C. Chattopadhyay (Former Vice-Chnacellor, Uttar Banga Krishi Vishwavidyalaya), and Shri Wezope Kenye, IAS (Agriculture Production Commissioner), emphasized semi-intensive mithun farming, natural farming, youth entrepreneurship, and adoption of modern technologies.
Dr. Girish Patil, Director, ICAR-NRCM, highlighted opportunities in agribusiness and value-added mithun products. Shri Sanuzo Nienu, Director of Agriculture, stressed the importance of self-reliance in food production under the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Dr. B.M. Sunep Imchen, Director, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, advocated improved mithun management and diversification through Tho Tho cattle.
The programme concluded with a farmer interaction session, distribution of agricultural inputs, and awards to outstanding mithun farmers.
Over 400 farmers from Phek and Meluri districts participated, marking the event as a significant step toward inclusive agricultural growth in Nagaland.
