ICAR-Mahatma Gandhi Integrated Farming Research Institute, Piprakothi, Motihari, celebrated World Wetlands Day today. This year the day was celebrated under the theme, "Wetlands and Human Wellbeing". The event aims to raise awareness, highlight wetlands' contributions to health and food security, share agricultural solutions, and inspire actions and partnerships for wetland conservation.
The day was celebrated under the Chairmanship of Dr. A.K. Singh, former Deputy Director General, (NRM), Dr. S.D. Singh, Former Assistant Director General, Inland Fisheries, Former Prof. A.K. Srivastava, Dept. of LPM, Ranchi Veterinary College, Birsa Agril University, Ranchi, Dr. K.G. Mandal, Director, and Scientists.
Dr. Singh, emphasised the importance of wetlands, and probable threats, and their crucial role towards ecosystems and human life. He also added the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all particularly emphasised the protection and restoration of water-related ecosystems.
Dr. Mandal, briefed on the theme of the event. He said three action points for stopping water pollution, making a global effort to conserve and sustainably manage the wetlands, and restoration of wetlands at the local level.
World Wetlands Day, celebrated today every year since the year 2021, commemorates the signing of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands in 1971, emphasizing the crucial role of wetlands in human prosperity and a healthy planet.
