ICAR-CIARI Regional Station, Minicoy, Lakshadweep Conducts Intensive Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers under MGMG Programme

ICAR–Central Island Agricultural Research Institute, Regional Station, Minicoy, successfully conducted five programmes under the Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav (MGMG) Programme as part of the nationwide Intensive Campaign on Balanced Use of Fertilizers launched by ICAR, New Delhi.

The campaign comprised one seminar, one field visit and awareness programme, one field demonstration-cum-awareness programme, and two village community meetings, organized between 18 April 2025 and 26 May 2026 at various locations in Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep. The programmes focused on balanced fertilizer application, soil test-based nutrient management, integrated nutrient management (INM), micronutrient supplementation, biofertilizer use, organic nutrient management, kitchen gardening, and sustainable coconut cultivation practices.

Technical sessions and interaction with the farming community on soil health management and balanced nutrient use was organised during the campaign activities. The experts conducted field visitsand  demonstrationsproviding practical guidance on soil sampling, fertilizer application, and nutrient management practices.

A total of 57 participants, comprising 25 male farmers and 32 female farm women, actively participated in the campaign. The programmes received an encouraging response from the farming community and strengthened awareness on sustainable nutrient management and soil health improvement in Minicoy Island.
