ICAR–IVRI and KVK Ri Bhoi Organise Kisan Goshthi on Winter Management of Poultry and Piggery

A Kisan Goshthi-cum-Input Distribution Programme on the theme ‘Care and Management of Poultry and Piggery during Winter under the NEH Programme was organised by ICAR–Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Mukteswar Campus, Uttarakhand, in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ri Bhoi, ICAR–Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, today.

The programme was graced by Shri Kynjohlang Rangtong, MDC of 3-Mawhati Constituency and Vice-Chairman, Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC), as the Chief Guest. Dr. A. K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR–Agricultural Technology Application Research Institute, Zone VII, Umiam, attended the programme as the Guest of Honour, while the session was chaired by Dr. S. Ghatak, Director, ICAR–Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam.

During the inaugural session, the dignitaries emphasised the importance of adopting scientific and climate-resilient practices for poultry and piggery management during the winter season to minimise stress, reduce disease incidence, and enhance productivity. This was followed by an interactive technical session led by subject matter experts.

The technical deliberations focused on winter housing management, balanced feeding practices, disease prevention measures, and the adoption of low-cost technologies to maintain optimum temperature for poultry and pigs. The programme concluded with the distribution of essential inputs, including pig feed, infrared bulbs, and other supportive materials, to the participating farmers.

The initiative was widely appreciated by the farming community for its practical orientation and timely support aimed at strengthening winter livestock management in the district.

Several senior scientists and officials from ICAR–IVRI, Mukteswar also participated in the programme.

A total of 107 farmers from Ri Bhoi district participated in the programme, including 71 women and 36 men, reflecting strong involvement of women farmers in livestock-based farming activities.
