An interactive meet of school students, fish farmers and scientists was organised at the Tuticorin Research Centre of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Insitute today to mark the National Fish Farmers’ Day.
Importance of seafood and fish farming was dicussed during the interactive meet, which was organised with an aim to provide opportunity for the school students to understand the importance of marine fisheries, fish farming and seafood and encourage them to pursue higher education in the field of marine fisheries and aquaculture. Apart from 45 students from nine schools, fish farmers from the areas such as Sippikulam, Keelavaipar and Therespuram and scientists from TRC of ICAR-CMFRI also took part in the programme.
The students interacted with the fish farmers and the scientists on relevant issues in the marine fisheries sector. Besides interactive meet, competition and awareness lectures were also organised as part of celebrating the National Fish Farmers’ Day at the Centre.
The fish farmers from Tuticorin coastal villages shared their experience with the students.
